Biotechnology
Greenblum & Bernstein's Biotechnology team represents clients in all aspects of IP procurement and enforcement. Numerous of the firm's Biotechnology professionals have advanced technical degrees, and each of the firm's Biotechnology professionals has experience in industry and/or government.
This experience helps the firm's Biotechnology professionals understand client goals and formulate strategies to maximize the value of biotechnology-based IP.
Each of the firm's patent practice groups includes professionals from the Biotechnology team. As a result, the Biotechnology team is prepared to counsel clients from the early stages of research and development all the way through IP enforcement. Professionals in the patent procurement practice group secure intellectual property protection for new discoveries. The litigation and trial practice group represents clients involved in IP enforcement activities by providing both strategic counseling on maximizing equity value of the IP portfolio, pre-litigation counseling, and conduct of litigation through trial.
The Biotechnology team has developed patent portfolios across the biotechnology spectrum, from genomics to proteomics, and including biopharmaceutics and therapeutics, reagents and diagnostics, bioassays and bioinformatics. Clients of the firm's Biotechnology team include pharmaceutical and biotechnology companies, hospitals, universities, and government research institutions.
Biotechnology patent prosecution is simply a different animal requiring extensive knowledge of PTO directives and procedure specially geared to the biotech area. Value development often begins before the patent application is even filed, and is often maximized in licensing and/or litigation. The client’s goals dictate the strategy, but execution boils down to having a depth of experienced professionals working to achieve a result – strategies are worthless unless they succeed.
