Experience
James L. Rowland joined the firm in 1987. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Rowland served at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office for more than fourteen years, where he held the positions of Primary Examiner in Group 310 (Material Handling) and Supervisory Patent Examiner in Group 260 (Electrical Communications). While at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, Mr. Rowland served on a number of office-wide committees and for two years was assigned to the Office of Automation. His efforts while assigned to the Office of Automation earned him the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Gold Medal Award for distinguished achievement relating to his involvement in the creation and implementation of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office's PALM docketing and file management system.
Practice Areas
Mr. Rowland is involved in all aspects of preparing and prosecuting patent applications as a member of the firm's patent procurement practice group. Mr. Rowland counsels clients regarding patent and related matters as a member of the firm's client counseling, licensing and technology transfer practice group. Mr. Rowland argues extensively before the Board of Patent Appeals and Interferences, and his expertise in this area is often sought by other attorneys and firms. Mr. Rowland’s practice additionally includes reissue and design applications.
Mr. Rowland's practice encompasses a range of technologies, with a focus on technologies relating to sporting goods.
