Clients value Scott Watkins’ ability to skillfully convert complex materials and issues into simple-to-digest concepts for business, patent prosecution and courtroom use. Scott prosecutes patent applications before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office in electrical, computer software, network, and mechanical arts. His prosecution style has been shaped by many years of training with former Patent Examiners complemented by extensive patent courtroom experience, with a resulting eye toward obtaining patents that will be respected in the relevant industries as easy to comprehend, enforce and monetize.
In addition, Scott counsels clients on infringement and validity issues. He is frequently called on to assess the strength and value of entire patent portfolios for potential acquisition or licensing.
Scott’s extensive experience also includes all types of dispute resolutions, mediation, arbitration and litigation. - Represented a major defense contractor in arbitration over government contracts valued at over $500 million for fighter jet related technology. Favorable arbitration panel verdict.
- Represented major electronics manufacturer in ITC action for patents relating to prevention of electrostatic discharge when connecting electronic components. Patentee dismissed the Complaint mid-discovery.
- Represented major internet telephone provider in the Eastern District of Virginia for one of seven patents asserted involving Voice over IP. Favorable verdict obtained from Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit.
- Represented patentee against Sony in an ITC patent infringement action involving patents for data flow in cameras. Case settlement in patentee’s favor for $40 million.
- Represented major car audio manufacturer in the Eastern District of Pennsylvania for patents relating to the electronic noise cancellation in audio circuits. Favorable settlement following mediation.
